Biosketch

Frederick J. Rescorla, M.D.

 

              Dr. Rescorla is the Anna Healey Chair in Pediatric Surgery within the Department of Surgery at the Indiana University School of Medicine.  He completed his medical school training at the University of Wisconsin followed by general surgery at the Indiana University School of Medicine.  He then trained in pediatric surgery at Riley Hospital for Children, Indiana University School of Medicine, under the direction of Dr. Jay L. Grosfeld. 

              Dr. Rescorla joined the Division of Pediatric Surgery within the Department of Surgery under Dr. Grosfeld’s leadership and developed clinical and research interests in pediatric surgical oncology and minimally invasive surgery.  In 2005 he was named the Division Director of Pediatric Surgery and Surgeon-in-Chief of Riley Hospital for Children succeeding his mentor, Dr. Jay Grosfeld.  He was named the Anna Healey Chair in Pediatric Surgery at the Indiana University School of Medicine in 2016. 

              Dr. Rescorla has been active within the Children’s Oncology Group with a focus on pediatric germ cell tumors.  He has participated in leadership within the Surgical Section of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Pediatric Surgical Association.  He has been recognized by medical students and residents at Indiana University as an outstanding professor on several occasions.  He currently serves on the Pediatric Surgery Board of the American Board of Surgery.  His clinical research focus involves pediatric germ cell tumors, minimally invasive surgery and management of fecal incontinence and constipation.  He has been active in advancing pediatric surgical care in third world countries including lecturing and teaching pediatric surgical techniques in several countries in Africa.
