Overview

Recent legislative activities in Tennessee have established a Palliative Care and Quality of Life Advisory Council to better address the needs of patients and families facing complex, life-altering illnesses throughout the trajectory of that illness through the end of life with the goal of increasing access to palliative care across the state. Individual values and opinions about palliative and end-of-life care will vary by person and family, and our local medical providers need information about how to disseminate information about these issues to their patients and deliver primary palliative care as needed and appropriate.

The Tennessee Hospital Association (THA) was established in 1938 as a not-for-profit membership association to serve as an advocate for hospitals, health systems and other health care organizations and the patients they serve. The Association also provides education and information for its members, and informs the public about hospitals and healthcare issues at the state and national levels. THA’s mission is to lead its members in advocacy for and support of community-based hospitals and health systems and assist them in delivering accessible, cost-effective, quality health services.

Special Event

All registered attendees are invited to join us Wednesday, September 26, at 6:30 for a special screening of Dr. MR Rajagopal's film Hippocratic: 18 Experiments in Gently Shaking the World. Dr. Raj is considered the father of palliative care in India, and this film follows his life as he pursued his dream of bringing ethical practice and whole person care to modern medicine in his country.

Objectives
  1. Describe how the Advisory Council will continually assess the current status of palliative care in Tennessee
  2. Explain the barriers that prevent palliative care from being obtained and utilized by the people in Tennessee who could benefit
  3. Implement principles of primary palliative care within a generalist practice
  4. Implement best billing practices for delivery of palliative care services

Registration

Registration is $149 for all attendees. Preregistration is now closed.
