Overview

This 3 day in-person meeting will be held at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. The meeting will be focus on increasing diversity in our PGx science in order to improve the predictive effectiveness of PGx implementation. Day 1 will focus on the PGRN program, Day 2 CPIC, and 3 will be a combination of programming and committee meetings. Come enjoy Spring in Colorado!

The Clinical Pharmacogenetics Implementation Consortium (CPIC) is an international consortium dedicated to facilitating use of pharmacogenetic tests for patient care. One barrier to implementation of pharmacogenetic testing in the clinic is the difficulty in translating genetic laboratory test results into actionable prescribing decisions for affected drugs. CPIC addresses this barrier via its guidelines www.cpicpgx.org. This meeting will focus on strategies for successful implementation of CPIC guidelines into clinical practice, including practical considerations for choosing genetic testing platforms and clinical labs, reporting genetic results to patient and clinicians, and implementer perspectives on navigating the electronic health record for reporting pharmacogenetic results. The meeting will conclude with a “hands on” program exploring the real-world considerations and challenges of implementing pharmacogenetics into clinical practice.

The mission of the Pharmacogenomics Global Research Network is to catalyze and lead research in precision medicine for the discovery and translation of genomic variation influencing therapeutic and adverse drug effects. To accomplish this, the PGRN aims to:

  • Promote research and implementation in pharmacogenomics
  • Provide a forum for collaboration, resource sharing, and education
  • Foster awareness of the global importance of pharmacogenomics

Objectives

After participating in this educational activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Outline the current and emerging application of pharmacogenetics in the field of cardiology
  2. Describe the current landscape of PGx reimbursement and cost-effectiveness data and identify practical considerations for reimbursement
  3. Identify best practices for PGx reporting including FDA regulations
  4. Summarize the current landscape of direct to consumer PGx testing and describe how to share, manage and counsel patients regarding DTC results
  5. Identify resources for educating clinicians and patients regarding pharmacogenetics
  6. Define successful implementation of pharmacogenetics and associated improvements in patient outcomes
  7. Outline the current and emerging application of pharmacogenetics for the use of aminoglycosides
  8. Describe the current state and usefulness of phamarcogenomic testing in minority populations
  9. Summarize the benefits of PRS over single variant assays in PGx
  10. Illustrate how iPSCs can be used to investigate the functional consequences of genetic risk variants

Registration
