Overview

The Pediatric Biomedical Imaging Initiative (PBII) an initiative in the Department of Radiology at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. This Fall 2026 we are hosting the PBII Nuclear Medicine Course October 19–20, 2026, in Memphis.

This two-day hybrid course, offered both in person and online, will provide a multidisciplinary exploration of pediatric nuclear medicine and molecular imaging. Designed for radiologists, nuclear medicine physicians, oncologists, trainees, technologists, physicists, and multidisciplinary clinicians, the program will highlight emerging advances, clinical applications, and future directions in pediatric imaging and theranostics.

Educational sessions will feature expert perspectives on neuro-oncology, epilepsy imaging, pediatric oncology, neuroinflammation, molecular brain imaging, non-oncologic nuclear medicine applications, PET tracer development and translation, radionuclide therapy, advanced imaging instrumentation, and artificial intelligence in nuclear medicine. Additional topics will include PET/CT, PET/MR, SPECT, novel radiotracers, clinical trial design, translational imaging research, and evolving therapeutic applications in pediatric care.

Through multidisciplinary discussion and clinically focused case-based learning, participants will gain practical insight into state-of-the-art imaging approaches, emerging technologies, and innovative research shaping the future of pediatric nuclear medicine.

Objectives
After participating in this educational activity, you should be able to:

  1. Explain the fundamental principles of pediatric nuclear medicine, including radiotracer biodistribution, radiation safety, and the selection of appropriate imaging protocols for common pediatric indications using SPECT/CT and PET/CT
  2. Describe total-body or long–axial field-of-view PET/CT systems and their clinical applications in pediatric patients, including strategies for dose optimization
  3. Discuss the principles, clinical indications, and safety considerations of radionuclide therapy in pediatric patients
  4. Utilize knowledge of radiopharmaceuticals in designing clinical trials, including dosimetry, dosing schedules, and monitoring for adverse effects in radionuclide therapy
