Overview

This year, the annual St. Jude/PIDS Transplant Symposium and Research Conference have been combined and will be held virtually. The conference is divided into four primary sections: the immunocompromised host/transplant medicine, infectious diseases research, career development, and global health.

The primary goals of the meeting are to:

  • Provide updates on the current diagnosis and management of complex infections in immunocompromised patients
  • Describe new developments in host-pathogen interaction, focusing on bacterial, viral, and fungal infections
  • Identify opportunities and challenges during the transition from residency to fellowship and from fellowship to faculty
  • Provide updates on global health-related opportunities for trainees and to share strategies for conducting clinical research in research limited settings

The target audience for this conference includes medical students, residents, fellows, and faculty with interests in pediatric infectious diseases, global health, immunocompromised hosts and transplant medicine.

Objectives
After attending this conference, participants will be able to: 

  1. Describe updates to current standards in the diagnosis, treatment and management of infectious complications in pediatric immunocompromised patients, including T cell therapies
  2. Explain advances in the management of infections in transplant patients
  3. Explain new developments in host-pathogen interaction, focusing on bacterial, viral, and fungal infections
  4. Identify opportunities and challenges during the transition from residency to fellowship and from fellowship to faculty
  5. Discuss global health-related opportunities for trainees and to share strategies for conducting clinical research in research limited settings
