Overview

This inaugural professional learning opportunity is hosted by the St. Jude Patient Education Program and Medical Content Outreach.

Held in conjunction with Health Literacy Month, this event is designed to elevate the quality of patient family education at St. Jude through training, multidisciplinary collaboration, and implementation of best practices.

This event includes interactive sessions on topics such as: 

  • Best practices in content development, evaluation, and delivery
  • 3D modeling and virtual reality in patient education
  • Universal precautions approach to health literacy 
  • Plain language and clear communication
  • Patient family readiness to learn
  • Implementing teach-back in patient family education

Objectives
After participating in this educational activity, you should be able to:

  1. Differentiate between effective and ineffective patient education delivery techniques
  2. Describe the core elements of effective education materials and how to use them in daily practice
  3. Integrate patient education production and delivery best practices into their clinical care
  4. Identify and access multiple tools that clinicians can use to improve their ability to educate patients and families
