Overview

The Clinical Pharmacogenetics Implementation Consortium (CPIC) is an international consortium dedicated to facilitating use of pharmacogenetic tests for patient care. One barrier to implementation of pharmacogenetic testing in the clinic is the difficulty in translating genetic laboratory test results into actionable prescribing decisions for affected drugs. CPIC addresses this barrier via its guidelines www.cpicpgx.org. This meeting will focus on strategies for successful implementation of CPIC guidelines into clinical practice, including practical considerations for choosing genetic testing platforms and clinical labs, reporting genetic results to patient and clinicians, and implementer perspectives on navigating the electronic health record for reporting pharmacogenetic results. The meeting will conclude with a “hands on” program exploring the real-world considerations and challenges of implementing pharmacogenetics into clinical practice.

Objectives
After participating in this educational activity, you should be able to:

  1. Identify practical considerations for choosing a genetic testing platform and clinical laboratory.
  2. Summarize the risks and benefits of returning pharmacogenetic test results directly to patients and provide examples of good practices.
  3. Describe barriers to implementation of pharmacogenetics using different EHRs and strategies to overcome them.
  4. Define successful implementation of pharmacogenetics and associated improvements in patient outcomes.
  5. Outline the current and emerging application of pharmacogenetics in the field of psychiatry.
  6. Explain the method CPIC uses for evaluating pharmacogenetics literature.
  7. Identify methods (successes and pitfalls) used to implement pharmacogenetics successfully.

Registration

Please note: registration is now closed.

Early bird registration will open on January 14, 2019 and is $75.00.  The deadline is April 1, 2019.
